Barbara Sue Witten was born on the 11th of April 1944 in Alamosa,
Colorado. She is the second daughter and
third child of Robert Dalton Witten and Bessie DePriest Witten.
Barbara was quite the “tom boy”; she was very upset when her mom
told her that she had to start wearing a shirt.
It wasn’t fair that girls had to wear shirts and boys didn’t! She loved being outside and making up
games. Barbara also loved riding stick
horses with her brothers, Chuck and Rich.
It would take all day to find the “perfect” horse. They would tie them up along the fence in
between rides, but if they were too far in the road their dad would run them
over! (Poor horses!) The next day, they were off again to find the perfect
stick to make a new horse. One day they
were out in the field riding their stick horses, when Rich got hurt. He tore his leg up pretty good and couldn’t walk home. He was too heavy for Barbara to
carry back to the house, but luckily he had his stick horse and was able to ride it home!
Barbara went to La Jara School and graduated in 1962. She married Robert James Hill on the 10th
of September 1963. They had four
daughters. On the 2nd of May
1991, Barbara married Nathan Eugene Wolfe.
Nate was especially good to Barbara’s mother and Bessie sure loved
him.
Barbara has four granddaughters, four grandsons, one
great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.
She has another “great” on the way!
She enjoys time with her family and helps to watch her great grandson on
the weekends. She loves getting baby
kisses, even if they’re slobbery!
Barbara has worked at Toro for almost 40 years and she resides
in Lakeside, California.
