Who Is Margaret E Talley?


ANSWER: It depends! There are actually TWO Margaret E Talley's.

The first is Margaret Ellen Talley. Margaret Ellen was called Ellen her whole life. She is the daughter of Elisha Freeland "Eli" Talley and Barbara Ellen "Barby" Hudson. She was born on the 3rd of April 1864 in Hickman County, Tennessee, United States. At the age of 14, she married Thomas Walker "Tom" DePriest and on the 29th of January 1880 they joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-say Saints. Ellen and Tom emigrated to Manassa, Conejos, Colorado, United States with a small group of church members. Ellen held many callings in the church, she was a Primary Teacher, a Visiting Teacher and member of the Stake Relief Society Presidency. Ellen had twelve children, all but one, living to adulthood. When Ellen was 68, she became a widow. She died at the age of 73, in the home of her daughter, Tabitha [Tah-bI-tha].

The second is Margaret Eaisbel Talley. She was called Eaisbel [Iz-ah-bel]. She was the daughter of Allen Talley and Pheriba Henby. Eaisbel was Ellen's aunt. She was a sister to Ellen's father, Eli. Eaisbel was born on the 23rd of June 1859 in Hickman County, Tennessee, United States. At the age of 17, she married James Houston "Jim" DePriest. Jim was an older brother to Tom. Eaisbel and Jim were baptized and joined the church the same day as Ellen and Tom. They were also among the emigrants to go to Manassa, leaving Tennessee on the 26th of March 1883 and arriving on the 1st of April 1883. Eaisbel had eleven children. Jim died in 1932 and Eaisbel died five years later, at the age of 78.
