Ardell Roy "Dude" DePriest

Ardell Roy "Dude" DePriest was born on the 24th of October 1925 in Nortonville, Conejos, Colorado, United States [1] [2].  He was the fifth son and eighth child born to Jesse Thomas DePriest and Freda "Pearl" Von Cannon.

Dude lived with is family in Conejos County [3] before moving to Alamosa County.  Dude was baptized on the 7th of July 1935  in the Ephriam Canal, southwest of Sanford, Conejos County.  He went to the Excelsior school with his siblings.  He joined the United States Navy and fought in World War II [4].

Dude married Zinda Nell Mayo in Taos, Taos, New Mexico on the 4th of October 1947.  They had one child, Lonnie Elmer DePriest (1949-2012).  They lived in Alamosa for many years and built a house southwest of Alamosa.  Dude worked as a rancher raising hogs, at a feed store and at a service station.  Dude was a playful fellow and was always dancing, teasing and playing with the kids.  He was dearly loved by his nieces and nephews and was called the "cat's meow".  He loved horses and dogs and could honestly say he had a dog in every color imaginable.  Later, they moved to Grand Junction, Mesa County to be near Zinda's mother.

Eventually, they moved to Roseburg, Douglas, Oregon where he died on the 27th of November 1986.  He was buried the 5th of December 1986 in Grand Junction.
